Two busted with R200 000 drugs in Welkom

A large variety of hard drugs including cocaine, the drug CAT, and crystal meth with a street value of R200 000, were found in a flat in Doorn, Welkom. Two foreigners were arrested.

Members of the Welkom Public Order Policing (POP), led by WO Thabo Booy, received information from Crime Intelligence about a suspect with a suspected stolen cellphone, who was at the same address where the drugs were being sold.

On Monday, 11 November, the police approached the flat and found 36 full Mandrax tablets, 19 ziplock bags of the CAT drugs, 196 ziplock bags of the rock drug, 240 ziplock bags of cocaine, and 137 ziplock bags of crystal meth.

Cash that amounts to R410 was found hidden inside an old microwave. A suspected stolen Samsung Galaxy A13 cellphone was also found and seized.

Two foreign national suspects, aged 36 and 41 years, were arrested for the possession and dealing in drugs, and possession of a suspected stolen cellphone.

In two other incidents on Wednesday, 6 November, two men, aged 23 and 35 years, were arrested for being in possession of 100 full Mandrax tablets.

Members attached to the Welkom Anti-Gang Unit, led by Sgt Thabang Thesele, were conducting crime combating duties when they received information about a vehicle transporting drugs to Flamingo Park, Welkom. A vehicle matching the description was pulled off the road and searched. The 23-year-old male driver was found in possession of full Mandrax tablets.

In a separate incident, while patrolling in the Welkom industrial area, members spotted a suspicious Toyota Corolla parked near a petrol station. The vehicle was approached and searched. A 35-year-old male driver was immediately arrested after being in possession of drugs.
