Man arrested in Welkom for assault, pre-existing rape charge

A man who was wanted by police for a rape incident in 2023, was arrested in Welkom on Monday, 4 March.

While the Welkom K9 commander was in a meeting, he received a distress call regarding a possible bank robbery at one of the malls in Welkom. 

The officer reacted to the information and mobilised all necessary units. When the police arrived at the mall, they discovered that it was an argument between a couple in the bank, and a 30-year-old man was seen assaulting a 28-year-old woman.

The man was arrested for assault and taken to the Welkom Police Station.
